it is a commonplace among moralists that you cannot get happiness by pursuing it. this is only true if you pursue it unwisely. gamblers at monte carlo are pursuing money, and most of them lose it instead, but there are other ways of pursuing money, which often succeed. so it is with happiness. if you pursue it by means of drink, you are forgetting the hangover. epicurus pursued it by living only in
congenial society and eating only dry bread, supplemented by a little cheese on feast days. his method proved successful in his case, but he was a valetudinarian, and most people would need something more vigorous. for most people, the pursuit of happiness, unless supplemented in various ways, is too abstract and theoretical to be adequate as a personal rule of life. but i think that whatever personal rule of life you may choose it should not, except in rare and heroic cases, be incompatible with happiness. if you look around at the men and women whom you can call happy, you will see that they all have certain things in common.
the most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family.
artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. but there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty. the whole subject of happiness has, in my opinion, been treated too solemnly.
it had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion. perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recover, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. but when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory. it is the si-mp-le things that really matter. if a man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasure in the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn, he will be happy whatever his philosophy may be. if, on the other hand, he finds his wife fateful, his children’s noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare; if in the daytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then what he needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen--a different diet, or more exercise, or what not. man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than he likes to think. this is a humble conclusion, but i cannot make myself disbelieve it. unhappy businessmen, i am convinced, would increase their happiness more by walking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy.

Firstly, we know all the people must face a lot of pressure everyday, people know the secret have their own way to reduce their pressure and solve the problems. In front of the presure, they have a lot of methods just like drink a cup of tea, listen some light music or talk with their friends to share their mind and relax theirselves.
Secondly, they have their own plan of everything such as a timetable include the time for working, the time for enjoying their life with wife, with husband and kids, the time for shopping and so on.. They just face the pressure durning the time for work and they use remaining time to enjoy their life and do some other things they like.
Thirdly and the most siginificant things of all is that they do not worried about the pressure or the problems will happen in the going future and they have strong confidence to salve and to face all the challenges. They have a glorious vision in their mind.
To sum up, they optimistic faced everything. Optimistic mind-set is the a short cut to the happiness. Optimistic mind-set is the key to open the door to glorious.

Good morning/afternoon distinguished judges and my fellow students. I am ..from..##. I am going to start my speech with a question. How can we harvest happiness? As for this question, most of you have thought about it incidentally or purposefully. While have you figured out the way? Next, I will share my understanding of this question. For me, the road to happiness is the way to fight for my goals and desires. As a matter of fact, I have been on the road to happiness from the moment I was born.
When I was 5, I racked my brains to get a Barbie doll or a teddy bear. In order to get them, I was willing to attend the piano class which actually was the last thing I wanted to do. However, on thinking of my little dolls, I forgot all the pains in the piano class. I deeply believed that I was realizing my happiness, and I was on the road to my happiness.
When I was 10,I was fascinated by the title of NO.1 which could bring me a huge sense of success. TO be the NO.1, I sacrificed my rest time to attend all kinds of training classes, and I saved my pocket money to afford reference books. These might sound painful for most 10 years old children. But as long as I achieved my goal, I thought I was on the road to happiness.
When I was 15, I became an enthusiast of painting. I enjoyed the way to express myself by means of different colors.. with a strong desire to improve my painting techniques, I attend a painting class. I travelled between the painting center and my home for hours. What is more, none of my t-shirts and skirts could have a narrow escape from those pigments. However, I still felt happy, because I was fighting for my desire little by little.
Time flies. I am 20-year-old now. by comparison with 5-yeae-old and ten-year-old, I harvest more desired things, such as love form friends, care from teachers and CDs signed by celebrities. The feeling is always the same. By this time, I realize that as long as I fight for my goals and desires, I will feel excited, fulfilled and satisfied. Today, my goal is to present a perfect a speech to all of you. Now I am working on it. Hence I can say I am harvesting happiness, and I am on the road to happiness.

It is his dream to be a investment expert, however, his wife left him owing to poverty, and then he couldnt afford the rent so he led a vagrant life in the city.
What’s more, he had to run as quickly as possible only to get the chance into the asylum. Too much "had to" finally made him achieve his goal, the moment he knew the news, his eyes were full of tears.

Happiness is basically a state of mind. It’s not in the mere possession of money, power or other material. When we achieve something we’re longing for or do something we prefer to, a spiritual satisfaction is perceived, which in my opinion can be defined as happiness.
Happiness lies in the effort of dedication and in the joy of achievement. Let me share something of my experience as a volunteer for the German agent in the 2009 World Stamp Exhibition. During the five days, with another two volunteers, we’ve done a lot of cancellation and helped communicate with customers who came to our booth. We all felt tired but cheerful. I’ve learned to listen to others, to value their opinions, and to work in cooperation as a team member. In short, I think I can say that I’ve learned to be a better person through volunteering. And I believe it’s one of my unforgettable experience in life.
Every person, regardless of their position, has something to offer to humanity. We achieve our own value by dedicating to the society we live in. And we gain grate satisfaction through our sincere effort. In a word, if everyone does a little, we can make a big difference, to build a happier and more harmonious world.

Happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define?
What factors are important in achieving happiness? When asked what they are after in their life, people tend to say that happiness is the most important, if not the only, goal in life. But as you may realize, it is not an easy thing to do to give a definition of happiness, because different people may have different interpretations of happiness based on their own life experiences. While some people link happiness to wealth and material success, others think it lies in emotions and loving personal relationships. Yet others think that spiritual paths, rather than either the material world or relationships with people, are the only way to true happiness.
Personally, I think the following factors contribute to ones happiness. First, we need to have a realistic target in life. Many people often feel disappointed or even frustrated in their life and complain that they are doomed to failure. The cause of their unhappiness lies in the fact that they have too high a life target. Second, when a life goal is set we should make efforts to realize it. There is much in the saying that happiness lies in the pursuit of ones goal. Quite a few people have one after another goal in their life. But they never really start to turn them into reality. As a result, their life goals bring them nothing but unhappiness. Third, we should treat the others as we hope to be treated. Human beings are social animals. Inevitably we often depend on the others in our society for a happy life. We should not be egocentric. Instead we have the obligation to make the others happy, and in this way we will all be able to live in a pleasant society. In the final analysis, happiness lies in the pursuit of one’s realistic goal. If we take such an attitude, we will be able to live a happy life and thus bring happiness to the people around us.

As we all know, happiness is something that every person is chasing. I always try my best to find out what is the true meaning of happiness. And I think I got it last week. It was an ordinary Saturday morning. I felt a little tired because of the Pparation for the mid-term exams.
